It’s that time of year again! We’re counting down the days to Christmas with our own little “advent calendar” – one new game to play over the holiday season each and every day.
As the year winds down, things get really busy. We’ve got Christmas parties to attend, the end of year rush on work, and all the rest of it. But it’s also a time where we take holidays, find a moment to relax, and enjoy the company of others. This is the best chance to catch up on some key games that you might have missed from the year… or just play that multiplayer game that you’ve been waiting to get a crew together for.
Day 22: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Nintendo gave both of its most prominent female characters leading roles this year, and both Princess Peach’s and Zelda’s games were excellent. If you’re only going to play one this Christmas season, however, I highly recommend Echoes of Wisdom, which takes all the basic ideas of a Zelda game and then applies them to a very different hero in Zelda. In doing so this is one of the most fresh Zelda games in a long time.
Will we see more with the princess saving the day? Hopefully! Nintendo has taken great strides to give Zelda more agency and potency within the Zelda series narratives, so hopefully in jumping in with this you’re just getting in with something that will continue to grow from here.
