You may be thinking I’ve lost my mind. “Lindsay, writing about a PC demo for a game that launched in 2020 is strange.” I get it. I rarely cover demos, and I don’t think I’ve ever written about one coming out four years after a game’s launch. But this is special. One, it’s D’Avekki, and I have been writing news and reviews for its games since The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker blew me out of the water in 2018. I try to remain balanced for news, but I’m not going to lie: I’m a massive fan of the studio started by a husband and wife team and the FMV games it has developed. But there’s more here. I promise.
Dark Nights with Poe and Munro follows radio hosts Poe and Munro through six supernatural stories. Poe and Munro a characters began in D’Avekki’s previous title, The Shapeshifting Detective. Along with Doctor Dekker, which launched first, the three games form a trilogy. D’Avekki has since released a standalone title, Murderous Muses. So that is four games to date. But why a demo for Dark Nights with Poe and Munro now? The development studio is clear that it is dropping ahead of an upcoming announcement for its fifth FMV game, and I can’t help but wonder if the reason for the demo now is because it builds on that original trilogy… (Tim and Lynda, if you’re reading this and want to spill the tea, I’m ready anytime!)
Dark Nights with Poe and Munro is an FMV game that follows two spooky radio hosts who are very clearly in love with each other (and in denial about it). If you’re interested in the game — as you should be! — check out my review. The PC demo for Dark Nights with Poe and Munro includes the entire first chapter of the game. It features Justin McElroy as a serial killer hunting his prey… at the station itself. Progress is transferrable to the full versions of the game if it is purchased via Steam with the same account..
Here is the game’s original trailer:
Alongside the demo, a patch that adds optional hint text is now available via Steam and the soundtrack have been released.
Developed and published by D’Avekki Studios, the demo for Dark Nights with Poe and Munro is available now via Steam. The game is also available for consoles, but the demo is Steam-only.
