Not to be that person, but I’m a trained photographer who can no longer do much of it due to chronic illnesses. Because of this, photo-based games have a special place in my heart. Fomography is a story-driven game about an aging man reliving his life through the lens of a camera. Dangen Entertainment and Brendan Keesing have announced that the game will be published by Dangen Entertainment. Originally set to launch only for PC, Fomography will also be released on consoles.
Fomography’s story is about the effects of photos on dementia patients, a truly touching topic. You are an elderly man losing his memory is tasked with reliving his life: the joy, the places, the people, the small details, even the traumas and things he would prefer to remain forgotten. He sees all this through the photography of a child with a crazy journey (more on that later). As the man (and child), navigate a labyrinth of fading memories to rediscover and chronicle your past. You’ll go even deeper by remembering forgotten details and hidden mysteries. The first-person game is set in a lush world with a loveable cast of characters. You will recollect your youth by solving dilemmas with your camera, unravelling the mysteries of a life lived.
One day, a boy’s mother gifts him a camera. Excited to start using it, he snaps photos of her while she playfully laughs and poses. Each frame captured her joy… until the last one. When he pushed that shutter button, something went wrong. His mother is gone and the boy is whisked away to an unfamiliar time and place. He ends up standing in a dim room with a faceless man, his identity completely forgotten even by himself. The man suggests the boy uses the camera to capture and chronicle his memories. Then — poof! — the child wakes up in a small town of faceless people. He will use his camera to solve his mother’s mysterious disappearance.

The camera and its photographs are key to the narrative unfolding. You can personalize your camera by choosing lenses, filters, and display guides. Those polaroids chronicle your memories and are preserved in your journal. You can organize and explore your memories. Revisit scenes to see how well you are at photography.
The “adventure” aspect of Fomography has you trekking through lush Australian forests, into subterranean caves, and to bustling towns. There are hundreds of things to discover. Take photos of fauna, flora, landscapes, gems (sparkly!), odd townspeople, and even enigmatic clues.
Developed by Brendan Keesing and published by Dangen Entertainment, Fomography will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series sometime in early 2025.
