It’s taken years of waiting but it is nearly time for the first localization of Date A Live: Ren Dystopia to be released for PC worldwide as a launch window of September has been announced. The visual novel has only been available for PlayStation 4 in Japan since its original launch, so Japan will also be getting a PC version for the first time; the PC version will feature Japanese audio with English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese subtitles. The original story based in the famed Date A Live universe will include ten returning characters and one new one – Ren.

For thirty years, Earth has been plagued by spacequakes that are triggered Spirits, enigmatic entities. Shido meets a Spirit who has become completely disillusioned with humanity. (Same, girl. Same.) Shido’s sister reveals he has a unique power to seal a Spirit’s powers away. But the method is interesting: he needs to date the Spirit and make her fall in love with him. All in the name of protecting the world, I suppose. At least he faces the Spirits with complete sincerity.

Natsumi (seen below) is a newly-emergent Spirit being targeted by Deus Ex Machina Industry. Shido defends her before sealing her powers. Shido protects the world by reshaping it and sealing Origami, bringing about a time of peace save for the few enemies still lurking. After a thankfully normal evening with friends, Shido dreams of a mysterious voice calling from the shadows. The next day, he awakes to find a container with the image of a snake adorning it under his pillow. He assumes it is a prank and asks around, but it becomes apparent that is not the case when they try to open it…

Live A Live: Ren Dystopia features a branching narrative, including nine routes and over 15 endings. If you make the right decisions, Shido can grant the Spirit’s wishes. He might even come across some new friends! But if you make the wrong decisions… it’s game over.

On PC, Date A Live: Ren Dystopia will be available digitally as a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes a digital art collection (13 pages of character art and rough art), localizations of two audio dramas (Natsumi Encounter and Origami Friendship) plus one short novel (Ren Masques), and the official soundtrack (27 tracks). The audio dramas feature Japanese voice acting, with the script in English and Traditional Chinese. The short novel will be available in Japanese, English, and Traditional Chinese.

Developed by Idea Factory and published by Idea Factory International, Date A Live: Ren Dystopia will be released for PC via Steam worldwide this September. It launched for PlayStation 4 in Japan during 2020.
