It feels like a long time since Koei Tecmo announced its last Dynasty Warriors game. They’re usually so prolific, but the last one (Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires) was an early 2022 release. So it’s actually quite big news that the next Dynasty Warriors has finally been announced, and it is Dynasty Warriors: Origins.

The big feature with this one is that you’ll get to insert yourself into the action. For the game’s main story mode, rather than playing as one of the characters from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, you’ll instead create a “nameless hero”, and follow along with the action, presumedly moving around and shifting allegiances to get a full understanding of the chaos that has enveloped the land.

From the press release:

Throughout the game, players will be forced to act fast as the unprecedented size and scale of enemy armies overwhelm the battlefield. Coordination with allied armies is key as players deploy battle tactics in real time while slicing through waves of soldiers in the most tension-filled fights in DYNASTY WARRIORS history!

In addition, for the first time in a DYNASTY WARRIORS title, the storyline will be told through the eyes of a “nameless hero”. Play through the historical tale of war as chaos erupts throughout the Three Kingdoms, showcasing the vast lands of China and its most ruthless generals like never before!

We don’t have any other details at this stage – other than it will be released on the plaforms that you’d expect (PS5, Xbox Series X, Windows PC) in 2025, but the trailer sure does whet the appetite.

Naturally, we’ll be following this one very closely at DDNet.
