Some epic games have come from RPG Maker for PC but the versions for consoles haven’t gotten as much attention. Of course, there are always the outliers, like Nestor who spent 1600 hours creating a JRPG using RPG Maker MV on Nintendo Switch. (Matt interviewed Nestor for DDNet, so check that out!) So imagine what several people with that amount of dedication could do together! Originally announced for Japan in October 2023, Game Maker WITH will make it easier than ever to share and collaborate with other users. Thanks to NIS America, it will be coming to Western consoles later this year and into 2025.
RPG Maker WITH promises more tools and greater accessibility than past titles in the long-running series of game-making games. The interface should be user-friendly with intuitive controls. It’s easy to choose whether to create simple of complex assets and functions, so people of any skill level can dive in right away.
There are dozens of assets available in RPG Maker WITH. In Japan, at launch, there will be 128 characters and 130 monsters. Post-launch content is also planned. Players should be able to make near-infinite combinations (I think, I’m no mathematician so maybe I’m exaggerating) using assets that have already been created without even having to connect with other users.
In the past, sharing options have been limited for the console versions of RPG Maker. RPG Maker WITH promises to change that with a new feature called Asset Sharing. With previous titles in the series, users were only able to publish completed works; now, users can share works-in-progress as parts to create games with other users.
The Western version of RPG Maker WITH will be launched with English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish language options.
Developed by Gotcha Gotcha Games and published by NIS America, RPG Maker WITH will be released in the West for Nintendo Switch in “autumn” (Q4) 2024. PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions will follow in 2025. The Japanese version of RPG Maker WITH will be released in Japan for Nintendo Switch on April 11, with PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions coming later in 2024; it is published by the developer.

Exciting! I’ve always been tempted to try the console versions of RPG Maker despite owning multiple generations of the PC version, because I feel like deliberately limiting the scope of a project will mean it’s more likely to get finished. On PC the temptation is always to add “just one more plugin” and to get just a bit *too* ambitious in the process!
