In April, it was announced that Calico would be coming to the one brand of consoles it hasn’t launched on: PlayStation. At that point, it was only known that the game would be released sometime in 2023. Well, we’re getting close to the end of the year, and Calico will be released as promised for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 (along with all updates available on other platforms) in late November.
Calico is a day-in-the-life community sim where the player is tasked with the most important task: rebuilding the town’s cat café. And oh, what a cat café it can be! There are plenty of ways to decorate, new animals to befriend, and delicious dishes to serve patrons.
Outside the cat café is a whimsical open world. Players can express themselves by customising their avatar with collectible clothing. Use potions to change the interactions with furry companions. The PlayStation release includes all of the content featured in Calico: Pawsome Edition including 25+ new cooking minigames, new sales bonuses, new animals (owl, cow, goat, opossum, chicken, alpaca, and sheep), the ability to customise the café floor and wallpaper, and a new potion.
There are lots of animals to befriend and name. They can be added to the party or sent to live at the café. Interact with them by dancing, cuddling, petting, carrying, lounging with, and playing with them. In the café, each recipe comes with its own series of mini-games that involve shrinking down, navigating the kicker, and serving patrons tasty pastries.
Customisation is a big part of Calico. For the player’s avatar, customise with clothing found throughout the game. For the café, decorate both the interior and the exterior. Collect and arrange furniture and toys for human and animal visitors (like cat trees, scratching posts, and dog beds).
Developed by Peachy Keen Games and published by Whitethorn Games, Calico will be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on November 28. It is currently available for PC via Steam/Epic/Humble/itch.io/Game Jolt, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.
