Toodee and Topdee (it’s a weird name but I kind of like it) combines 2D platformer and top-down puzzler into one unique game. In fact, the game started with the idea to merge those two different genres as a game jam prototype. They got great feedback, and Toodee and Topdee was born. The game started with a PC release (a score of 74 on Metacritic), then one for Nintendo Switch (it has a better score of 84), and now it will be rounding out the bunch by launching on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
The game promises to seamlessly blend the two beloved genres of 2D platformer and top-down puzzle. And that doesn’t mean each level is one of the two genres, it means they’re combined into each level. Switch between Toodee and Topdee and their unique perspectives to overcome really difficult challenges, solve what are described as “mind-melting” puzzles, and defeat huge bosses.
Toodee and Topdee are trying to find a missing semicolon and restore balance to the universe. (This is really upsetting to me, I love semicolons). Someone forgot to put that semicolon into the code that controls the universe, and everything has gone a bit… whacky. They’ll meet strange new friends and uncover secrets along the way.
Speaking of friends: play the game with your in local co-op mode. If you find the game too difficult, you can change some of the rules in the settings to better suit your play style. You can have a casual experience, of an extremely difficult one.
Developed by dietzribi and published by Top Hat Studios Inc., Toodee and Topdee will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One in June 7.
