Did you know there’s a free-to-play Octopath Traveler game on mobile devices? It’s a prequel to Octopath Traveler, which is quite a good game (series). Square Enix tends to do this with its properties; there is also a couple F2P Final Fantasy games. These mobile JRPGs actually aren’t that bad, and I think are worth checking out. Even if you’re not terribly interested, the news that NieR: Automata (“the greatest game ever made”) is coming to Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent may be enough to sway you to give it a try.
Before getting into the details of the crossovers, here’s a quick description of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. Orsterra is rule by tyrants hungry for wealth, power, and fame. These desires have unleashed a bottomless darkness, but there are those that resist it. Players travel as the Chosen One and, along with others, must fight to stop the tyrants.
In this crossover with NieR: Automata, the Android trio make an appearance as player are able to summon 2B, 9S, and A2. Their party can be strengthened with 2B’s determination, 9S’ curiousity, and A2’s passion. Players can recruit a guaranteed five-star 9S in the event’s free Guide 10, available once before April 5.
There are event-specific daily gifts and login bonuses, including Guidestones for 2B, 9S, and A2; Tasty Experience Nuts (L), Silver Guidestones, Gold Guidestones, and Rubies. Players can also score at least 30 Rubies once per day, boosted to 100 and 50 Rubies on March 22 and April 4. There are also updates to premium shop content.
There’s some new playable content as well, like limited-time Otherworld Hunts and Special Tasks to earn 9S’ Guidestones, Traveler’s Sacred Seals, and up to 350 Rubies. A mysterious threat arrives in Orsterra, as well as the Androids’ memories through new Memoirs. Their individual Memoirs will be available permanently when players unlock each hero, but the crossover Memoirs are only playable until April 5.
Developed and published by Square Enix, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is available for Android and iOS.
