Goodbye World is a game about two friends trying to create the world’s most successful indie game. Players experience their highs and lows through the complexities of development. It’s like the infamous Game Dev Story but with more of an actual story, ironically. Up until now, Goodbye World has only been available for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch… but that’s set to change, and soon.
The game is about facing harsh realities. Who knew making games isn’t all sunshine and roses?!! It follows two friends, games programmer Kanii and graphics artist Kumade. They met in college. Their definition of the most successful indie game is the one that sells the most, and that’s their focus. But they struggle to actually get their games out to the world, haven’t created anything new for two years, and spend most of their time working part-time jobs just to make ends meet. Time and money are running out. Kanii is desperate to make a product that sells, but Kumade makes a decision all on his own…
The story is linear, so no branching narratives here! It promises a story-rich experience through 13 chapters. Within the game is a game called Blocks, which has players go through 12 stages of a puzzle platformer. In this game within a game, cute animal-like characters break and pile up “block.” It’s thoroughly retro, as seen with its controls and music. The secrets of Blocks will be revealed as the main story continues.
Developed by Isolation Studio and published by PM Studios, Goodbye World is current available for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. It will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One in “Spring” 2023 (so Q2, basically). It will be available digitally for all platforms, and physically for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
