Ubisoft’s I Am Alive apocalypse getting ever closer

Ubisoft continues to do all kinds of good things with the digital download platform, with its next big project being a decidedly downbeat experiment.

I Am Alive is a post-apocalyptic action/adventure game, according to the publisher, and is due for release in winter (summer for those of us in the southern hemisphere). It’s being developed by Ubisoft Shanghai, and the focus in this game? Making players think.

According to Ubisoft’s press release: I Am Alive follows an everyman’s journey to find his wife and daughter, who were lost during the “Event.” A year later, he finds Haventon, his hometown, in shambles; buildings are destroyed, toxic ash fills the streets, and society has been torn, causing inhabitants to take all necessary actions to survive.

Sounds to us like it’ll have some strong survival horror elements too, then. Players will be attacked by both the environment and their enemies. Stamina and resource management will be the important statistics and abilities to monitor, and the game features what Ubisoft claims is a “unique” combat system that requires players to utilise intimidation. The best example of this is by the continuing usefulness of a pistol without ammunition: cowards are easily swayed with an empty gun, while other enemies will put players to the test.

Sounds good to us. With games like From Dust and remakes like Tom Clancy under its belt, Ubisoft is one of our favourite digital download publisher.

Anyone else looking forward to this potentially brilliant title?

  • I remember when I first saw the announcement trailer for I Am Alive. I nearly leapt out of my chair, I was so excited. And now it's finally being released! This is a title that has been years in the making so I can only expect that it will be suitably incredible.

Any word on what platform it's going to be released on? The initial rumour was that it was going to be a disc-based released but if you've heard differently, I'd be very interested to hear what systems it will be released for!

  • Probably. Though I imagine the main push will be to get this game out on the console platform, Ubisoft is pretty good about having their games on Steam as well. Still, if it's a third-person game (like I imagine it will be), I'll probably grab it for PSN. I just like the controls of third-person games with controllers as opposed to mouse-and-keyboard.

Anyways. I'm excited for this game!
