Final Fantasy Portal released on iOS, brings Triple Triad to the mobile world
This may not be news you missed. In fact, you may have had to be legitimately living under a rock to do so. But as Final Fantasy is so near and dear to our hearts here at Digitally Downloaded, we’re going to talk about Final Fantasy Portal regardless! Portal is honestly just a glorified advertising platform from Square Enix for all things Final Fantasy, and quite frankly that doesn’t even matter for two reasons. The first: for the next few days when you download Portal, you can download Final Fantasy I for free within the app. The second, and far more important: for the first time ever, via the app, there is an official standalone version of Triple Triad available! Yes, that Triple Triad, the one from Final Fantasy VIII (and let’s not forget Final Fantasy XIV). If you’re willing to deal with the free-to-play system of it all (waiting for time to pass to recharge, etc.) then it may be worth it.
NIS America bringing Persona 4: Dancing All Night to Europe, Australia
NIS America has announced it will be the lucky company bringing Persona 4: Dancing All Night to the PlayStation Vita-owning masses in Europe. The game, currently available in Japan and being released by Atlus in North America, takes place after Persona 4 Arena Remix and is described as a “story-driven music game.” We’ve been keeping a watching eye on the game for months now, getting excited for trailers as they become available and for free swimwear DLC being announced. The best news of all may actually not be what the headline is about, but instead these two new trailers featuring Yu and Rise! Enjoy!
Denis Galanin’s The Franz Kafka Videogame a two-time winner at Intel Level Up 2015
The Franz Kafka Videogame may not be due out on Steam until next year, but Denis Galanin’s upcoming puzzle adventure based on the writings of Franz Kafka is already garnering quite a bit of recognition. At this year’s Intel Level Up Game Dev Contest, the game took home Best Adventure/RPG as well as the grand prix Game of the Year. We aren’t completely unfamiliar with Kafka-inspired games – for example, Matt makes a point of mentioning him with regards to the unreliable narrator concept apparent in Steins;Gate. The Franz Kafka Videogame (shockingly) draws even more upon the Russian author’s writing. The protagonist, K, is forced to take a distant voyage to a place where nothing is normal and everything is absurd and surreal.
The Deer God making the leap from Steam to iOS
Check out the Steam page for The Deer God and it is very evident the popular opinion is quite polarized, but that hasn’t stopped developer/publisher Crescent Moon from bringing it to iOS on September 3, 2015. The Deer God is a pixel art adventure game about survival, reincarnation, and karma – some heavy themes when you play as an animal! The Steam launch trailer below should give everyone a good idea of what to expect from the game when it hits Apple’s mobile operating system early next month.
Does any of this news tickle your fancy or make you steaming mad? Let us know in the comments! And meet us again next week for a new edition of Catch-up coffee Monday.
