Not satisfied with simply bringing its console games into the next generation, Ubisoft has revealed it is attempting to do the same for theme parks. In an announcement that – for many of us – came out of nowhere, it disclosed their plans to build a “next-gen” theme park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The park, which is slated to open in 2020, will be owned and operated by Malaysian theme-park developer RSG. Creative control over the attractions will reside with Ubisoft, and it will be developing all digital media for the rides and help shape the overall experience.

What exactly is meant with “next-gen” remains vague, but senior vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures Jean de Rivières hints at an experience that is more interactive than traditional theme parks and allows visitors to “become the heroes of their own life-sized game.”
All bemusement aside, Ubisoft does have some iconic franchises: Rayman, Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, etc. And the idea of an interactive theme park experience with role-playing elements sounds pretty interesting. How cool would a Zombi U-themed survival game be? Or Rayman obstacle courses? I for one wouldn’t mind spreading mayhem across a reconstruction of 15th century Florence. How about you guys?
