See Chocobo Racing/Drifting and more at Square Enix’s PAX West panel
PAX West is just about over, and it is safe to say that this panel is the one thing that excited me the most to come from the annual convention. There is about 20 minutes of title cards at the beginning of the video, but after that things get very interesting. Final Fantasy XV’s director, Hahime Tabata, is there to help narrate the footage. The first bit shows Noctis and friends entering a mine shaft and battling monsters. Around the 50 minute mark, you’ll want to really perk up: Chocobo Racing is in the spotlight! In the game, Chocobos have a limited amount of stamina to sprint but can also drift to conserve stamina. Just after FFXV: Chocobo Drift, some new footage of the game is displayed where the gang has infiltrated an enemy base and must be strategic to beat mechanical creatures blocking their path. Final Fantasy XV is now due out November 29 after a two-month delay.
Disney Crossy Road gets scary
Or at least, as scary as you find the monsters from Monsters Inc. — for me, it’s more like “Disney Crossy Road gets fuzzy.” Last week, Hipster Whale’s Disney-branded Frogger revamp added a new level and characters from Monsters Inc. Players can now hop through Monstropolis while playing as Mike, Sully, Boo, Randall, and more. In total, the update adds 18 new figurines: 12 from the prize machine and 6 secrets. In addition to the Monster update, Disney Crossy Road now has Weekend Challenges with quests available that pay out in coins, pixels, and figurines.
XSEED Games bringing Scarlet Curiosity to North American PS4s
It’s official! Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity will be launching 9/20 on PS4 for $19.99! pic.twitter.com/FoFDC2TSeU— XSEED Games (@XSEEDGames) September 1, 2016
XSEED Games is bringing Ankaka Spa-developed Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity (Japanese title: Touhou Kōkishin, or Adventures of Scarlet Curiosity) to North America on September 20. The digitally-released game will be available on PlayStation 4; it was released on the platform earlier this year in Japan after seeing an original release on PC. The game follows the “Scarlet Devil,” whose real name is Remilia Scarlet. She is 500 years old and incredibly bored as life as become monotonous, as it would after living for five centuries. After seeing an article about a monster terrorizing the countryside she leaves to find it. Unsuccessful, she returns to a manor that — ironically — the monster has destroyed.
New Magical Girl Raising Project video shows off more characters
So much anime, so little time! At least, that’s how it seems it will be over the next few months. My current most-anticipated title is Maho Shojo Ikusei Keikaku (translated: Magical Girl Raising Project), based on Asari Endo’s survival action novel series of the same name. The video above isn’t available in the US, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, or Australia — but it’s well worth turning on a VPN super quickly to see if you’re in those regions. Sister Nana is voiced by Saori Hayami; the character is a holy woman whose power is to bring out the best in a person’s abilities. The second character showcased is Weiss Winterprison (what a name!), voiced by Yu Kobayashi. Winterprison is protects love and can build a wall where nothing previously existed. The final character revealed is Nemurin, voiced by Yumiri Hanamori. She is a lazy girl whose power is to enter the dreams of others. These three join protagonist Snow White and over a dozen other characters. Magical Girl Raising Project premieres October 2 at Midnight.
