Tokyo RPG Factory’s new one looks better and better
Square Enix and Tokyo RPG Factory’s third project, Oninaki (following on from I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear) is looking better and better. Where the first two were classical turn-based JRPGs, this new one is heavy on the action, and it is so colourful and stylish.
We also have a release date for the game in Japan – it’s coming on August 22. We don’t have a specific release date in the west just yet, but we know it’s coming in summer (which is our winter, here in the west).
For people who enjoy the likes of Secret of Mana, or even the more recent Witch and the Hundred Knight from Nippon Ichi, I reckon Oninaki is going to be that nostalgia trip that Tokyo RPG Factory’s previous works have been to classic Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.
One of the greatest arthouse games is coming to Nintendo Switch
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is one of those games you really should have played by now. It was originally released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 way back in 2013, and has since come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and has even been released on Android and Windows Phone! I didn’t know anyone made games for Windows Phone.
If, somehow, you’ve missed all those previous versions, or simply want the game for on-the-go play but with buttons, then good news! Brothers is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 28.
This new version will have a two player co-operative mode added for the first time (which would defeat the point of much of the gameplay, from memory, but I digress). It will also have a behind-the-scenes with the director, and a concept art gallery. It’ll be the definitive version, in other words. So no more excuses, people. Play it.
God Wars on the PC has a release date
We’ve played – and loved – God Wars more than a few times over the last couple of years. It wowed us on PlayStation 4, and then wowed us all over again on Nintendo Switch. We have the release date for the game on PC too, so it can wow us for a third time – God Wars lands on June 14
For those who haven’t been following along, God Wars is a traditional tactics JRPG, very much in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics. What sets this one apart is that it’s based in Japanese storytelling and legends, and it is so, so good. The art is beautiful, the characters are amazing, and the gameplay is just spot on for the genre.
That’s why we even named it one of the ten best tactics RPGs that have ever been produced. Grab this when it comes out on PC, and you’ll enjoy hundreds of hours of the very finest in tactics action (and we really do mean “hundreds of hours” – the PC is the base game, plus one of the biggest pieces of DLC that have ever been created)
Well done, Blizzard. I’m actually going to start playing Overwatch again
Overwatch, Blizzard’s competitive FPS phenomenon, is celebrating its three-year anniversary. It’s hard to imagine that the game has only been around for three years, it’s become so ubiquitous, but there you go. Three years.
Given that it’s a competitive multiplayer shooter, it was always going to be one that I was going to give up on, and I haven’t played for… around 2.9 of those three years. It’s not that I have an issue with the game (actually, I rather loved it, as per my review), but it’s just a genre that I’ve never been overly inspired by.
But then they went and gave D.Va – the sexy Korean character – a school uniform costume. Well played, Blizzard. Well played. I’m downloading all those patches I need to to play the game again as I write this.
