News by Lindsay M.
It’s time for the final press conference from E3, but the week is still just beginning! Everyone’s eyes are on Nintendo for one reason: Animal Crossing. But what’s actually ahead remains to be seen, so grab your coffee (good morning, Aussies!) and let’s get started with the Nintendo Direct. Just assume everything is for the Nintendo Switch, and all seasons are for the Northern hemisphere.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Someone new is arriving… the hero draws near… it’s the heroes from Dragon Quest XI! Coming this summer.
Dragon Quest XI: The Elusive Age Definitive Edition S
And speaking of Dragon Quest XI, here’s a familiar trailer for the Switch edition, coming September 27.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Poor Luigi, he’s invited to a gorgeous hotel that ends up being… darker than expected, with spooks galore. The goal is to suck up the ghosts before they get you. There’s some new functions: slam, suction shot, burst. Oh, Gooigi, a Luigi made of green goo. There’s also a new ScareScraper mode for local and online co-op gaming. Available this year.
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics
Huh, this is something with Netflix. Dark Crystal? It looks like a tactical RPG, more colourful than the usual in the genre.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Washed ashore a strange land, a castaway will find a new truth. Only first… he must awaken. I’d recognize this Legend of Zelda remake anywhere, it’s got the more adorable graphics I’ve ever seen in a Zelda game. Link’s Awakening Remake will be released on September 20.
Trials of Mana Remake
It’s Square Enix so it’s got to be good, right? It’s also super cute. Action RPG Trials of Mana is getting a global release on the Nintendo Switch. Coming early 2020. Oh, and the original three Mana titles are now available on the Nintendo Switch. That means you can now download Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, and the original Trials of Mana… worldwide! Go! Go now!
The Witcher III
People will love this. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is coming this year.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
This is the worst class reunion in history, as a war erupts. Fire Emblem: Three Houses releases on July 26.
Resident Evil 5 & 6
There’s a weird live-action commercial with two teens playing Resident Evil in a spooky house. Two more Resident Evil titles are coming to the Switch: 5 and 6. Three more are already available.
No More Heroes III
Looks like things are going to get weird today! He’s the last hero around. No More Heroes III coming 2020.
Contra: Rogue Corps
In a city of the damned, the streets are lined with rogue corpses. Ew. Battle aliens, kill everything, save the world. Contra: Rogue Corps is available September 26. The Contra Anniversary Collection will be available today.
Daemon X Machina
Daemon X Machina looks pretty nifty, despite not normally being my cup of tea. It’s coming out on September 13.
Danzer Dragon
Coming this winter.
Pokémon Sword & Shield
The game will be compatible with the Pokeball accessory, and you can take a Pokémon from the game on the go with you.
Astral Chain
He’s been waiting for you. Earth is being attacked by extraterrestrials, and human kind is about to be pulled into their dimension. There’s a counterweapon available; each can be attached to their operators and work as a team. Astral Chain will be released on August 30.
Empire of Sin
Coming spring 2020.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
This is another Marvel title that’s all about teamwork; playing co-op will be great fun, I expect. Also, there’s Scarlet Witch, so I’m all in. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order releases July 19. There’s also a content pass (ew) available.
Cadence of Hyrule
Play as Link or Zelda in Cadence of Hyrule, available on June 13.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020
This November, join Mario and more in a new Olympic sport game, complete with online competitions.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
It’s finally time! We’re heading to a deserted island. It’s gorgeous and sunny, and it’s up to you to make it less deserted. Craft, garden, collect your hearts out in this mainstream Animal Crossing Title: New Horizons will launch a bit later than expected, on February 20. As always, a delay is preferred to a subpar game!
Coming soon!
Here’s a quickfire list of releases coming soon to the Nintendo Switch:
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (again)
Banjo Kazooie is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate this fall.
More Zelda titles are on the way
Just one more thing… there’s always just one more thing! This is is glowing and flowing and green, to start with at least. Then it becomes dark and twisty and scary quite quickly. The sequel to Breath of the Wild is in development.
