Square Enix really does produce a good developer diary. It’s been running a series, looking at the various classic Final Fantasy games, and how they got made. Closer to a documentary than a bit of marketing collateral, these videos do provide some great insights into the making of some great games.
In celebration of the recent (and long overdue) release of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, Square Enix has put out a new dev diary for the game. In it, Naora Yusuke (art director), Hashimoto Shinji (producer), and Kitase Yoshinori (director), share what they were looking to achieve with the game, why it’s a memorable one for them, and some of the key themes and ideas that drove it.
If you haven’t played the remaster of VIII yet, please do so, it’s actually one of the finest JRPGs ever made and you’re going to be glad you did.
