As has become an annual tradition at DDNet, we are here to help you count down towards Christmas! One new game every day for the 24 days from December 1 to Christmas Eve. Think of it as a kind of Advent Calendar, if you will, giving you new tips and ideas for games to pick up and play at that rare time of year where everyone does have a little more time to indulge their favourite hobbies.
Also, it’s an excuse to post pictures of cute anime girls in Christmas gear every day. I won’t deny that we love doing that too.
When you think about Christmas, a couple of things will spring to mind. Presents, yes, sure. Green-and-red aesthetics, fine. But also winter (which is weird for us Australians, because Christmas occurs in summer for us, yet we still associate it with winter aesthetics) and romance. It is, fundamentally, a romantic season.
Heart of the Woods checks all those last two boxes. Yes, it’s got ghosts and weird things going on, but it also presents players with a wintery backdrop for some wonderful romance. And, sure, it might technically not be set in Christmas, but once you start playing it you’ll realise that it feels like it belongs nonetheless. It also helps that the game offers a really wonderful story and gorgeous art. You should play this anyway! Might as well make this season the time that you play it.
