JRPG Ys X: Nordics was only released in the West late last year but today Nihon Falcom announced that its upgraded version of the game, titled Ys X: Proud Nordics, is set to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan in mere months. It will be available physically and digitally, and no other platforms (despite earlier screenshots featuring PlayStation controls) or a Western release have been confirmed. Ys X: Proud Nordics features a new setting with a new story and other elements. The story follows adventurer Adol and pirate princess Karja as they visit Aland Island, found in the north of Obelia Gulf.
Compared to the original version of the game, Ys X: Proud Nordics features a vast map of a new island, new Mana actions, new bosses, Mana Ride races, and arena battles.
Ys X: Proud Nordics’ protagonist, Adol, is an extraordinary adventure and posthumously left behind more than one hundred journals about his adventures. It is well-known that at 17, he left Esteria for Celceta but only after his death was a journal found that reveals he stopped in Obelia Gulf along the way.
Karja, Canute, and Astrid are other important characters. Karja the pirate princess is the leader of a crew of marauders. She appears refined but fights ruthlessly and brutally. Appearing dauntless, Canute is native to the Kingdom of Danmorc. He is a first-class warrior and capable tactician. Astrid, also from the Kingdom of Danmorc, serves as Canute’s Shield Sister; she can’t use mana but she’s quick on her feet and extremely logical.

Steep cliffs surround Aland Island, making landfall difficult. The island is a vast, unexplored land housing countless ruins. Since it is unexplored, it has many nesting areas for birds and other creatures. One of the arks from the final Norgard Duchy days washed ashore on the island.
Developed and published by Nihon Falcom, Ys X: Proud Nordics will be released in Japan for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 31.
