Devil Jam announced for PC and consoles
Metal-themed survival game Devil Jam adds something new to the genre: rhythm! You play as a washed-up musician at a literal crossroads when a mysterious hooded figure asks for your guitar. While tuning it, they ask if you are still interested in playing live and hand you a contract. Once it’s signed, you are dragged to hell—that figure is the Devil and you’ve agreed to play for him. While trapped there, rock out and fend off fanatical groupies, angry mobs, and rival musicians. All you need to do is defeat the Devil, the greatest metal singer ever, to become a legendary musician.
Devil Jam has a 12-slot inventory system that allows for near-infinite demonic builds, though power and weapon placement matters. The developer states that there are 4.93 quadrillion possible inventory combinations. The game features rhythm-based auto-attack powers and a semi-randomly generated open world with lootable shrines. The characters, effects, enemies, and bosses are all hand-drawn.
Developed and published by Rogueside Games, Devil Jam will be released for PC via Steam in Q3 2025 and later for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series.
Viral game Cooking Companions is coming to consoles this month
Psychological horror sim visual novel Cooking Companions was released for PC when YouTube and Twitch users turned it into a cult hit. Combining cute visuals with a dark tale (which vaguely reminds me of another cult hit, Amanda the Adventurer), the game follows a group of friends trapped in a cabin deep into a mountain range’s woods. The friends begin to starve, strange events start occurring, and… unsavoury… challenges are faced. Time is everything, so be wise about how much time you spend exploring rooms, building relationships, and carving your path to the end. Last week, the game’s console versions were announced for a late April release.
The console versions include 15 new fully-animated cutscenes, new secrets, and localization in English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese. The PC version of the game will get these new features in a free update on Cooking Companion’s console release date.
Developed by Deer Dream Studios and published by Serenity Forge, Cooking Companions will be released digitally for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox on April 29. It will be released as a Premium Physical Edition for PlayStation 5, including a physical copy of the game, an illustrated inner cover sheet, a lenticular kitchen conversion card, a cartoon-inspired glitter sticker sheet, and displayable reversible chipboard standees.
Spray Paint Simulator will also launch for PlayStation
Don’t worry PlayStation players, you won’t be left out of the upcoming release of Spray Paint Simulator! Originally announced for PC, then expanded to include Xbox consoles, the spray painting sim is now also set for a simultaneous launch for PlayStation. No release date has been announced, but the game is expected to launch next month. In Spray Paint Simulator, the eclectic town of Splatterville badly needs a makeover, and you’re the person for the job! Grab your coveralls, painting tools, and trusty radio to begin your painting business and grow it over time.
Story Mode features an eccentric group of clients in dire need of your help. Prep each space, select the right colours for the job, and get creative. You can upgrade your tools, vehicles, and equipment. Paint things like cars, bridges, and… giant robots?! The unlockable Free Spray Mode makes the entire town your canvas and you can unleash your unlimited potential.
Developed by North Star Video Games and Whitethorn Games, Spray Paint Simulator will be released for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One in May.
Rain98 announced for PC and consoles
A new developer/publisher from Shibuya, C#4R4CT3R (don’t even get me started on that studio name) has announced lo-fi o-fi psycho-thriller romance adventure game Rain98 for PC and (unannounced) consoles. Set in Tokyo at the turn of the millennium, the game puts you in a chill, dark apartment room with a mysterious, dangerously charming girl named Reina Amehara. The two of you decide to perform a ritual to save the world from destruction.
It’s too bad Reina is a bit of a pain to be around. You must spend your money to keep her fed and happy. Emphasis on happy. If she’s made upset, that would make terrible things happen. Your days together are sweet, bitter, sometimes scary, and always strange.
Explore a Shibuya complete with public phones, beeping video game arcades, and neon signs. There are a variety of minigames to play. The sound effects of the environment plus lo-fi music promise to bring you back to the late ’90s. Soon, things start feeling off and your memories become foggy. Reina is holding onto a secret. Is what you see real or is your mind playing tricks on you? Tokyo’s lukewarm rain will wash the truth away…
Developed and published C#4R4CT3R, Rain98 will be released for PC and consoles “this fall” (September through November).
