Best known for developing Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, Summerfall Studios has announced unholy roguelite deckbuilder Malys for a 2025 release. No platforms have been announced. The developer has also revealed the pre-launch Kickstarter campaign for Malys, which is expected to launch this month. In the game, you exorcise the infernal and exact vengeance. Find and expel evil from innocent, possessed people.

“Summerfall Studios is built on finding ways to tell innovative stories, big and small, and Malys is no exception,” says Summerfall Studios’ Managing Director Liam Esler in a press release. “With a heavy emphasis on immersive and strategic play, Malys is a unique experience within the genre. We can’t wait to show players what we’ve been working on for the past year, but as we reach the finish line, we know the project will hugely benefit from some additional love as well as our community’s help.”

In this unique take on a familiar genre, you take on the role of Noah. He is a former priest, but he’s become an exorcist and demon hunter. Explore the city streets during the night. The festering city is filled with demons, but you are looking for your prey: the cunning and powerful Malys. Use your deck to expose rot, finding combinations and strategies to withstand the horrors of the world. Help the hopeless, free the possessed, and expect to die many times while trying.

The Kickstarter campaign is for funds to complete Malys, not make it from scratch. That’s why the turnaround time is expected to be approximately six months. This funding will give the developer some extra time to polish the game and unique opportunities for communication/collaboration

“Unlike many Kickstarters, we’re not asking for funding to get started on the game and for you to receive it in two or three years,” Esler continues in the press release. “We want to work with you directly to reach 1.0 and get it in your hands within six months of the campaign launching. To achieve that goal, we need your backing, support and feedback. So few studios get to release a second game, and the second project is often the one that can provide studio stability and longevity. We need your help to make Malys a reality that can be another brick in the path of character-driven, story-focused, comprehensive single-player experiences free of endless microtransactions and never-ending roadmaps.”

Developed by Summerfall Studios, Malys will be released this year.

She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
