If you’re being bullied, can the ability to read thoughts solve all your problems? Or will it cause more when you try to get revenge? These questions are explored in Mojika: Truth Rears Its Ugly Head, a dark visual novel that will launch for PC at the end of the month. The game follows a boy who is bullied based on his appearance, but he has a secret ability: wordsight. Players might feel trapped within this story of lies, blackmail, and cruelty masked by beauty.
Tanezaki Suteru is cursed with terrible vision and can see only 120 centimetres ahead. That isn’t the only complexity he is navigating, as he possesses the power to read a person’s thoughts by looking at their face. Suteru uncovers the malice under his classmates’ smiles. While the story begins with humiliation, it unfolds into a tale of revelations, confessions, and vengeance.
Mojika: Truth Rears Its Ugly Head features first-person storytelling so you become immersed in Suteru’s cursed perception. You must navigate him through a world that treats him like a monster. One could see his power as a curse, but perhaps it is instead a tool for retribution.
According to a press release, the game features:
- Branching Paths: Explore multiple story routes, each uncovering the sinister truths and hidden depths of Suteru Tanezaki’s tormentors.
- Impactful Choices: Your decisions at pivotal moments shape the story’s direction, unlocking diverse arcs and endings.
- Immersive Audio: Fully voiced characters in Japanese, accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.
- Art by Shigeo Hamashima: Renowned for her iconic work on Euphoria and Fraternite.
- Story by Shimokura Vio: Acclaimed for crafting the scenarios of Steins;Gate and Tokyo Necro, and directing the renowned You and Me and Her.
Developed by Nitroplus and published by JAST, Mojika: Truth Rears Its Ugly Head will be released for PC (Steam, JAST website) on March 31.
