The key art for Hanako's Flower Shop.

It’s nearly springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, and in a month nature will be well on its way from brown and muddy to green and blooming. What a great time to launch a game about flowers! Hanako’s Flower Shop is a shop management visual novel about running a flower shop, where you craft bouquets based on the flowers’ language. As Hanako, you must balance her grandpa’s legacy with the forging of her personal path forward while making the decisions that shape the story. The game doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it will be launching within April for PC.

Hanako is trying to find that path when she begins to run her grandfather’s beloved shop. He was a renowned florist with unparalleled skill and compassion, and Hanako is dead set on upholding his legacy. Trying to live up to her grandfather’s reputation and being afraid of falling short, Hanako wonders if she is truly capable of filling his shoes.

The shop has diverse customers, each with their own stories, dreams, and struggles. Hanako must truly listen and empathize to craft bouquets that speak the unspoken. She uses the emotions and possibilities associated with every flower to connect with her customers, bringing them comfort. A unique bouquet-building mechanic allows you to craft arrangements based on each flower’s meaning. Red roses are for love, a white lily is for modesty, an amaryllis is for regret, etc.

Hanako’s story is one of growth — and not just hers. It is shaped by your decisions, your relationships, and the lessons you’ve learned along the way. In a perfect world, Hanako will find her own voice and learn that a bouquet’s true beauty is in the feelings it represents.

Developing Hanako’s Flower Shop hasn’t been easy. It is mostly being developed by one individual, Vsevolod Metelsky from Ukraine. Metelsky has been working on the game since 2019 but paused due to the war, beginning again after moving to Tokyo.

“Getting Hanako’s Flower Shop so close to release is both exhilarating and daunting,” said Metelsky in a press release. “Years of hard work and dedication have gone into crafting this game, and every word of its story is infused with heartfelt emotion. We sincerely hope it offers you a spectrum of feelings—joy, reflection, and comfort—especially during life’s tougher moments. This game has been my dream to release, and through all of the delays from events outside of my control, finally getting to release this game and seeing people play and enjoy it will fill my heart with joy.”

Developed and published by FantaJI Games, Hanako’s Flower Shop will be released for PC (Steam) in April.

She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
