It’s Pokémon Day 2025, an annual event where The Pokémon Company overloads fans with new information. Last year’s event announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A, proving Pokémon Legends: Arceus to be the first in a new sub-series in the infamous franchise. The Pokémon Company dropped far more information regarding the upcoming title this year.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in Lumiose City. A redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place belonging to people and Pokémon. After your arrival, you quickly befriend your starter Pokémon: Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile. While staying in the city, your abode is an old hotel called Hotel Z. Its owner AZ is partnered with Eternal Flower Floette, an unusual Floette that holds a black flower. The hotel remains your home base while you venture out with new friends (like Taunie and Urbain, depending on the appearance you choose) you meet along the way.
In or out of Lumiose City, you can aim a Pokéball at wild Pokémon. You’ll need to be stealthy, as some will run away when they see you. Battling Pokémon lowers the HP so they become easier to catch. Past Pokémon games have featured turn-based battles, but in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you and your Pokémon move around in real-time. Pokémon still unleash their moves as commanded. There is precise timing for swapping Pokémon or using their moves. Moves take different amounts of time to begin.
In the game, you will sometimes see Pokémon undergo Mega Evolution, which transcends standard Evolution. Using it effectively is the key to victory.
For the first time in the series, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be playable in Latin American Spanish at launch, expanding the language options to 10; the other nine supported languages are English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese
Developed and published by The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released for Nintendo Switch in late 2025.
