The Rabbit Haul began garnering attention when its developer, Canadian studio Caldera Interactive, won the GDC Pitch competition in 2024. Today, the Edmonton-based team officially announced the game, described as a farming sim meets tower defence game, for PC and Nintendo Switch. Play as a cute cottontail rabbit living in a town ravaged by a greedy raccoon game called the Trash Panda Posse. During the daylight hours, tend to your garden. When darkness falls, swap to defence mode and keep those raccoons away. The Rabbit Haul will be released in 2026.
When it comes to farming, there is a lot to do: tend to crops, replenish food reserves and economy, water crops, add harvested produce to your haul, and grow defensive tower plants to help thwart nighttime invaders. You will need to be strategic in your placement, using synergies created between harmonious plants.
It is your choice when to switch to night, when you’ll have to defend your haul from the Trash Panda Posse. The raccoons grow stronger with each wave, with different enemy types trying to get past you. Protect your garden by upgrading your weapons and defences.
The Rabbit Haul is set in a sprawling, randomly generated world full of quests and treasures. No two playthroughs will be the same. Discover unique items and allies in the overworld to help rebuild your town and reinforce your defences. Upgrade your towers, unlock new merchants, and prepare yourself for your next adventure between runs.
“With The Rabbit Haul we wanted to combine our love of relaxing cozy games with the strategy of tower defence titles and the random adventure of roguelikes,” said Titus Lo, game designer at Caldera Interactive, in a press release. “We won the GDC 2024 Pitch competition for it, so it seems like there’s an appetite for The Rabbit Haul, and not just because the crops look tasty – though that helps!”
Developed and published by Caldera Interactive, The Rabbit Haul will be released in 2026 for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch.
