RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic for Nintendo Switch is a classic for a reason: when the original amusement park simulation game launched, it created an entirely new genre. RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic is a double-dose of nostalgia, combining the first two games — with minimal changes — into one package. It isn’t always easy to convert a game that originally used a mouse and keyboard to be compatible with a controller, though, so today’s update to the compilation should help with some of those issues as it adds touch controls and a few more helpful things.
Matt makes note of some downfalls of being “classic” early in his review of RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, writing that using that same interface is a “bother” and that the cursor is slow enough to be very sure before when clicking on something. Additionally, the button shortcuts aren’t properly communicated and it takes time to teach them to yourself.
Today’s update to RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic for Nintendo Switch introduces touch controls to the game. With this, players can use the touch-screen controls to quickly access and adjust menus, place pathways and scenery, and construct rollercoasters. The update also includes visualization settings (including the ability to modify cursor speeds) and an expanded tutorial to help adapt from mouse and keyboard to gamepad controls.
Developed by Graphite Lab and published by Atari, RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic launched for Nintendo Switch on December 5, 2024. A physical edition will be released on April 25, 2025.
