Now that everyone has (hopefully) finished their holiday gaming plans, today’s new DLC for Fairy Tail 2 might lure you back to the action RPG. The Fairy Tail 2 Hot Springs paid DLC has launched and features a new scenario, a new hot springs area, and special outfit sets. A free outfit set is also available, and there are a couple of notes for players with the Season Pass.

The centre of the Hot Springs DLC is, of course, the hot springs area. Fairy Tail guild members compete for the secret hot springs, resulting in epic team battles between playable characters. The DLC is included with the Season Pass or can be purchased separately.

Anyone with the game can now download the free Swimsuit Outfit Set, with new costumes for all playable characters, the Miss Fairy Tail Contest outfit for Ezra, and new photo frames and poses.

Gust and Koei Tecmo also noted two things for players with the season pass. Starting January 20, you can re-challenge bosses in the arena. You can rediscover the story with three new playable characters: according to a Twitter post from Koei Tecmo, Jellal will be available on February 13 while Mavis and Zeref will launch on March 13. However, today’s press release only states they will be released “periodically” between those dates.

Fairy Tail 2 is a direct sequel to the first game, based on the franchise of the same name. It brings you into the climax of the Alvarez Empire Arc. Players explore the Kingdom of Fiore while facing enemies such as the Spriggan Emperor Zeref, his elite team known as the Spriggan 12, and the Black Dragon Acnologia. Fairy Tail 2 also features a new combat system and a four-chapter original story set after the final battle. In his review for DDNet, Matt concludes that the game is “comfort food gaming for JRPG enthusiasts;” it is rather routine compared to several great JRPGs from 2024, but it uses strong source material effectively.

Developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo, Fairy Tail 2 is available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
