Don’t worry, fellow Pixel Pulp fans! While this is an announcement of a new game in a new series by LCB Game Studio, the Pixel Pulps series remains ongoing. With that out of the way, it’s time to talk about the developer’s next game. Gourmet Zombie is the first game in a new series titled PBM. (More on that later.) The chilling interactive fiction game is set during a zombie outbreak. You play as one of the last remaining humans, forced into being a personal chef for some hoity-toity zombie who fancies himself a gourmet. Your choices will determine your fate, but remember: you’re either the chef or the dish.
Surviving during a zombie outbreak seems like a great thing, but for you, it comes with a cost. You have been forced to serve Toufic, AKA the Gourmet Zombie. While alive, Toufic was a bon vivant and enjoyed many of life’s finest luxuries. Now that he’s undead, he has become more of a mort vivant: living a life of luxury despite being a zombie. Someone with such stature could never cook for themselves, so Toufic imprisoned you and made you his chef.
Every morning begins the same, with a character named Pig approaching you. Pig’s nickname is not based on his weight but on his huge nose. He also resembles a pig who has been trained to find truffles: he scours what remains of the world for the newly infected before bringing them to you alongside any tools you need.
Gourmet Zombie features a twisted, gory narrative. The line between moral and immoral is blurred. The branching narrative results in multiple endings. What will yours be? Master of macabre cuisine? Outwitting the Gourmet Zombie himself? Making alliances? Or will you be the next dish served to Toufic?
As described on the game’s Steam page, decisions will include:
- Who you befriend among the trapped humans and your enigmatic sous chef.
- Who you choose to serve as the next “ingredient” for Toufic’s gruesome dishes.
- Which tools you use to prepare the meals—precision is key, but so is survival.
- How you spend your time in the cellar, where every moment could be your last.
Gourmet Zombie is the first game in a new PBM series. LCB Game Studio created the PBM system to enrich narrative outcomes. Its dice-based mechanics are combined with poker mechanics.
Developed and published by LCB Game Studio, Gourmet Zombie has been announced for PC via Steam. All of the studio’s past games have also launched on consoles, so there is a good chance that Gourmet Zombie will be as well.
