The 24 games of Christmas! Day #9: Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge

'Tis the season to be relaxin'.

2 mins read

It’s that time of year again! We’re counting down the days to Christmas with our own little “advent calendar” – one new game to play over the holiday season each and every day.

As the year winds down, things get really busy. We’ve got Christmas parties to attend, the end of year rush on work, and all the rest of it. But it’s also a time where we take holidays, find a moment to relax, and enjoy the company of others. This is the best chance to catch up on some key games that you might have missed from the year… or just play that multiplayer game that you’ve been waiting to get a crew together for.

Day 9: Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge

Read our review here.

So here’s a thing that’s important about Christmas, but we often overlook: It should be about rest, and  a chance to truly unwind from the year that was. Whether your break is just a few days, or it’s like in Australia where Christmas tends to be 2-3 weeks (depending on the nature of your work), it’s important to find at least a few days to just let the mind wander and relax.

A screenshot from Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge, provided to the press from the developer and/or publisher. A girl with a brown bob and a green sweater stands in front of a small, wooden, house-like structure. Around her is lots of lawn covered with various types of furniture, and a single frog lounging. There is a pond toward the bottom.

Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge is perfect for this. It’s a low-pressure, wholesome, simple little game that lets you putter around and create a little garden refuge for cute froggies, without having to dwell on deep-and-meaningful conversations. It’s a rest game, in other words, a pure stress release, and one of our favourite examples of that from 2024.

  • I’ve been thinking abot returning to Kamaeru to complete my frog catalogue, this must be a sign that it’s time!
