It’s that time of year again! We’re counting down the days to Christmas with our own little “advent calendar” – one new game to play over the holiday season each and every day.
As the year winds down, things get really busy. We’ve got Christmas parties to attend, the end of year rush on work, and all the rest of it. But it’s also a time where we take holidays, find a moment to relax, and enjoy the company of others. This is the best chance to catch up on some key games that you might have missed from the year… or just play that multiplayer game that you’ve been waiting to get a crew together for.
Day 8: Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition
To this day I remember the day I had a copy of Worms Armageddon for the N64 sitting under the Christmas tree. It was all my brothers and I did for the rest of the day. Worms is such a brilliant concept in the way it combines taut turn-based tactics with utter hilarity, and Worms Armageddon is the finest take on the formula the series has ever seen.
And now an all-new generation of people can experience the joy of Worms at Christmas. This version even has online play, and because matches are fairly short, it’s a great one to pick up with friends and family, no matter where they’re located, when you can find an hour spare among all the parties. It’s almost incredible just how well this game has held up over the years.
My experience with Worms Armageddon was purely PC, so I remember Wormnet being there from the start. One of my high school friends still plays it weekly with a bunch of people! I’m surprised the anniversary edition came out with relatively little fanfare.
Yeah, agreed, the lack of interest in it surprised me too. Perhaps Team 17 have just damaged the Worms brand with nonsense like that Battle Royale thing that people have forgotten just how good Worms was back in those early days.
