It’s that time of year again! We’re counting down the days to Christmas with our own little “advent calendar” – one new game to play over the holiday season each and every day.
As the year winds down, things get really busy. We’ve got Christmas parties to attend, the end of year rush on work, and all the rest of it. But it’s also a time where we take holidays, find a moment to relax, and enjoy the company of others. This is the best chance to catch up on some key games that you might have missed from the year… or just play that multiplayer game that you’ve been waiting to get a crew together for.
Day 12: Duck Detective: The Secret Salami
Duck Detective makes our little advent calendar countdown simply because it’s my favourite indie game of the year and as the editor-in-chief I get to pull rank. But seriously this little point-and-click puzzle game is a total delight. It respects your time over its couple of hours-long runtime, but never feels like it’s missing an opportunity to have some fun or cut things short. Basically it’s pure whimsy and the perfect homage and parody of the hardboiled detective/noir genre.
Just remember that it’s tough out there for indie developers at the moment, and so if you are looking for a new game to play over the season, consider tracking something like Duck Detective down. The industry just wouldn’t be the same without this kind of creativity to go with the over-produced AAA-blockbuster stuff.
