It’s that time of year again! We’re counting down the days to Christmas with our own little “advent calendar” – one new game to play over the holiday season each and every day.

As the year winds down, things get really busy. We’ve got Christmas parties to attend, the end of year rush on work, and all the rest of it. But it’s also a time where we take holidays, find a moment to relax, and enjoy the company of others. This is the best chance to catch up on some key games that you might have missed from the year… or just play that multiplayer game that you’ve been waiting to get a crew together for.

Day 1: Ticket To Ride (Nintendo Switch)

Read our review here.

One of the big parts of Christmas is, of course, the family gatherings and gaming time. Ticket To Ride is one of the best options that you could hope for with these situations. The game is ridiculously easy to pick up and learn, taking just minutes to understand the rules. But it’s also enormously replayable, entertaining, and the range of maps available on the Switch version are now exceptional. There are maps that can be played through in just ten minutes (San Francisco), and then more challenging maps for more advanced players (Scandinavia). Regardless of the map that you do play, however, you’ll have some good laughs, and will be able to get everyone involved.

It’s just a pity that some of the maps in the Switch edition won’t launch until 2025. Nonetheless, with robust online options and full crossplay, you’ll likely find that Ticket To Ride becomes a regular feature whenever you catch up for games, locally or via online party sessions, long into the future.
