Idea Factory International is bringing otome visual novel Battlefield Waltz to the West over a decade after its original Japanese launch. First announced during IFI’s Summer Festival 2024, the game will be available in physical and digital editions.) It follows a young woman named Lan on her journey as the Maiden of the Cursed Sword. Following tragic circumstances, she ends up at a military academy with others skilled in combat and begins forging bonds. Love and war… that’s a great recipe for some heated romantic situations!
Battlefield Waltz begins when a girl, Lan, loses everything in a single day. Her village… her father… gone. She takes up a sword for protection but discovers it is cursed and holds immense power. This sword has the ability to shake the nation, leaving Lan no choice but to live on the battlefield.
She begins anew at her new home, an ultra-nationalistic military academy ironically called Nirvana. It is where young people skilled in combat gather, sharpening their skills and competing against each other. Here, Lan forges strong bonds and finds what she thought she’d lost forever: somewhere she belongs. Her potential suitors include Abel, Lustin, Nike, Pash, Tifalet, and Wilhelm.
Players can explore two maps with Map Exploration: Royal Capital Frontier and the Nirvana School. These are where Lan interacts with the other characters. Some information about others is only available during Map Exploration.
Chronicle mode helps keep track of your current route, note missing paths, backtrack to find all the endings, and replay scenes. You can select any previous scene to start from that point in your current playthrough, making it easier to find the branching narratives.
Once you meet unspecified in-game conditions, access to Ancient Memories is unlocked. The book, encrusted with gems, lights up when a good ending is achieved. Unlock all of the good endings to retrieve the ancient memories hidden in your sword.
Developed by Idea Factory and published by Idea Factory International, Battlefield Waltz will be released physically and digitally in the West for Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2025. A physical Limited Edition will also be available, but its contents remain unannounced.
