Don’t Nod is aiming for heightened emotions in Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, and considering its track record with narrative titles, I’d say it will push past the boundaries of the stories it has told in the past. The game will launch in two tapes (parts) in early 2025; Bloom will be released in February, and Rage will follow one month later, in March. Lost Records: Bloom & Rage follows four friends during the summer before college and the aftermath of that time, 27 years later. Information has been slow but steady, and a new trailer revealed today shows the emotional side of the game through brief clips.

Set in the fictional town of Velvet Cove, Michigan, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage takes place in 1995 and 2022. During the summer of ’95, Swann, Nora, Autumn, and Kat spend the summer before college hanging out and forming a band. Swann is new to the group, while the other three were already close. After something happens that causes them to stop speaking for 27 years, they have to reunite to confront the dark secrets of that summer.

Today’s trailer introduces evocative, darker themes like adversity and conflict. Prospective players are invited to piece together fragmented memories. It is also the best look yet at the supernatural mysteries present, focusing on the Abyss. But what is the Abyss, and how does it change the lives of the four teenagers?

The below trailer is preceded by a content warning for depictions of self-harm that may be distressing.

Don’t Nod has also revealed it is collaborating with Montréal duo Milk & Bone, who play a major role in the Lost Records: Bloom & Rage’s soundtrack. The song in the above trailer is composed by Milk & Bone; their new single, Forgone, is one of the licensed songs on the soundtrack. Forgone will be released through music platforms on December 6.

A quote from Milk & Bone reads, “We’re so thrilled to be able to announce our collaboration with Don’t Nod for the original soundtrack of Lost Records. Scoring a narrative video game like this has always been a dream of ours, and we could not have ever hoped for a better partnership. As gamers and big fans of previous Don’t Nod games, it was such an honour to be able to infuse the game with our identity and to tap into our melancholic signature sound!”

Developed and published by Don’t Nod, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will be released digitally for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Tape 1 (Bloom) will launch on February 18, 2025. Tape 2 (Rage) will launch on March 18, 2025. Don’t Nod is partnering with Maximum Entertainment for a physical PlayStation 5 version, available to pre-order now with a launch window of (Northern) Summer 2025.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
