Xenoblade Chronicles X, first published for Wii U in 2015, is an anomaly in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. It is a standalone sci-fi story set in a separate universe from Xenoblade Chronicles, published after the first game but before Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna — The Golden Country, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. For that reason, its title strays from traditional numbering. The original Xenoblade Chronicles got a Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch in 2020, and Xenoblade Chronicles X will follow in its footsteps next year. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is set to launch in March 2025 and features enhanced visuals, new story elements, and more.
It is 2054, and humans fled Earth due to a destructive intergalactic war. You have survived and made it to Mira, a sprawling and hostile planet. As part of the New Los Angeles colony, you must build a new home on this otherworldly planet with five continents and many unknown creatures (some of which are massive).
Your character’s looks are customizable. So too is the way you play, as the comprehensive battle system features many options to tailor it to your preferences, make Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition as deep (or shallow) as you’d like. After proving yourself to BLADE, you unlock a powerful Skell — a giant, customizable mech proficient in exploration and combat.
While attempting to rebuild society as it was on Earth, you will learn more about the people of New Los Angeles and help them with your problems. Building relationships with your party members unlocks quests containing rewards such as rare gear. Join an online squad to play multiplayer-specific missions, some of which are rather difficult — like the Global Nemesis Battles. After playing online, you can recruit other players’ avatars into your main story party.
This Definitive Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a worldwide release based on the game’s Western version.
Developed by Monolith Software and published by Nintendo, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be released for Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025.
