The final key art for Tetris Forever, by Willea Zwey.

Tetris Forever is, according to the developer, “a love letter to the global, multigenerational fanbase that spans the spectrum of casual to competitive gamers.” It functions as an interactive timeline that combines playable games, video featurettes, and digital artifacts. A few days ago, Digital Eclipse announced some of the retro Tetris titles included in the latest Gold Master Series entry. Today, the developer — in partnership with The Tetris Company — announced the compilation’s mid-November release date.

Tetris Forever explores the cultural phenomenon’s 40-year history and evolution, from a single programmer behind the Iron Curtain to an ongoing international puzzle gaming franchise. It also features a new game, Tetris Time Warp, where players can warp through different eras to experience a mix of graphics and gameplay mechanics in real-time.

The title’s key art was also revealed today, as seen in this article’s header image. It was created by artist and musician Willea Zwey; the image captures the essence of the story and the games. And Tetris has personal meaning to her:

“Tetris was one of the first video games I played as a child, blending logic and fun in a way that really stuck with me,” said Zwey in a press release. “When I was approached for this project, it felt like a perfect connection, especially with my background in architecture. I wanted to reimagine the game by creating a surreal architectural space that celebrates the endless possibilities of Tetriminos.”

Here is last week’s trailer, looking at some of the games inside Tetris Forever:

Several versions of the “original” Tetris are available in Tetris Forever, including an authentic recreation of the first version of Tetris on a Soviet Electronika 60 computer system, the 1988 Apple II version, and the 1988 Famicom version. Other titles include Hatris, Tetris 2 + Bombliss, Tetris Battle Gaiden, and more.

Developed and published by Digital Eclipse, Tetris Forever will be released for PC via Steam/GOG, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on November 12.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
