Toronto-based indie studio BancyCo has created a new IP, Neo Harbor Rescue Squad. The paramedic action drama title is a long jump from the developer’s first game, adventure horror hit Home. Don’t expect any scares here — unless you find even a hint of injury frightening. Neo Harbor Rescue Squad combines traits of popular medical-themed games and fast-paced minigames with an underdog story. Recently, it was announced that the game would be launching for PC and PlayStation next month. There is also an updated demo available through Steam and PlayStation 5, now with Chinese language support.
Neo Harbor Rescue Squad takes stories from real emergency personnel, told directly to the development studio’s staff, and turns them into over-the-top dramatic tales featuring teamwork and rivalry.
In Neo Harbor, the Fire Department are the heroes that save lives. You won’t start as a paramedic there — you are far more suited to spend your time as a rookie with the Rescue Squad, living in the Fire Department’s shadow. With the team, you will respond to various emergencies in the city while deflecting nefarious reporter Betty Woo’s apparent need to ruin the Squad’s reputation.
Juggle multiple waves of patients on each call using a frantic triage system that captures the urgency and unpredictability required for the job in an accessible way. Manage several scenes simultaneously, employing shields if you need extra time to strategize. Outside of the shields, that clock won’t stop ticking!
Stabilize patients using over 50 treatment minigames. All the minigames are intense, but some also promise to be quite funny. You complete tasks like performing CPR, stopping nosebleeds, wrapping bandages, using a defibrillator, and more.
The locales of Neo Harbor are inspired by Hong Kong, the hometown of BancyCo’s co-founder Nancy Yeung. There are dim sum shops, night markets, an amusement park (during a typhoon!), and other vibrant locations. The locations feature animated characters, expressive voices, and a smarmy talking dolphin.
Developed and published by BancyCo, and co-published by Laundry Bear Games, Neo Harbor Rescue Squad will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 on November 12. It may be announced for more platforms at a later date.
