It is nearly halfway through October — the unofficial month for horror game launches — and news is still coming in about horror games that will be released before Halloween. Narrative-driven murder mystery Blood on the Thames falls into this category as its launch date was announced today, but it is a less in-your-face kind of horror. A tale of supernatural forces and a woman’s relentless quest for answers in a city gripped by terror, Blood on the Thames is steeped in Lovecraftian horror. Players will solve puzzles, interview subjects, and unmask a malevolent mystery. A demo of the game will be available during Steam Next Fest.

Minerva lived a quiet life in the dingy streets of London… until 1888. Her husband’s mangled body is found in the Thames River, and as the spouse she is taken in for police questioning. Upon returning home, Minerva finds her maid collapsed in a pool of blood. With these two (possibly related) incidents, Minerva digs deeper into both events only to discover a sinister force threatening London.

You’ll use Minerva’s keen detective vision to spot clues, but it’s down to your own wits to connect the strands and weave them into answers.

The world is brought to life thanks to the game’s captivating characters, though it might be helpful to remember that some will do anything to come out on top. Build strong relationships with them to earn their trust and uncover new secrets. If nobody has your back, you’ll face a cult attempting to weaponize an unknowable entity.

Note: the below trailer is the most recent for the game, published three months ago.

“As we get closer to the release, I can’t overstate how happy I am to have gotten this far,” says Matt Thompson, founder of Team Firestorm and game director, in a press release. “I’m thankful for everyone who helped me along the way, and I can’t wait to see what people think of the world and characters we’ve created.”

Developed and published by Team Firestorm, Blood on the Thames will be released for PC via Steam on October 24. A demo launches on October 14.
