The release date for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is steadily creeping closer despite only being announced in June. It’s now only two weeks away! It puts Zelda in the hot seat after rifts start forming in the world and pulling people in. There have been lots of trailers showing off the game’s features, but today Nintendo dropped a 5-minute Overview Trailer to help pull all publicly known information together and tie it up with a neat little bow. I don’t think there’s much (if anything) new, but it’s compiled well enough to make it worth watching.

Hyrule is described as a sprawling, vibrant land. At the centre of a great field is Hyrule Castle, surrounded by a bustling town. Regions in Hyrule include Gerudo Desert, Faron Wetlands, Eldin Volcano, and Jabul Waters. Each location features its own denizens.

The trailer begins with Link being stolen into the ground by a rift. And rifts are forming everywhere: even the King falls victim! Zelda, left alone, meets a cute creature (Tri) who gifts her the magical Tri Rod. Using it, create imitations of things known as echoes that can be later used anytime. Create echoes of everything from beds to monsters.

Tri also gives Zelda the gift of Bind, an ability that allows Zelda to match some objects to her movements. Reverse Bond is the opposite: Zelda can “bond” to some objects and follow their movement. In addition to using the Tri Rod, Zelda is quite happy to pick up a sword to clear blocked entrances, fight monsters on her own, and fight amongst her echoes. Unfortunately, she is limited by a time gauge. Once it’s up, she can no longer stay in Swordfighting Form. The gauge can be filled by collecting energy in the Still World. There is also a horse, lots of handmade smoothies, and a variety of outfits when help is needed.

From Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on September 26 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
