Solo developer Andre Gareis and publisher Dear Villagers have partnered together to launch narrative, non-linear detective game Mindcop. Set to launch later this year for PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, Mindcop puts you in the shoes of the titular detective, trying to determine which of a camp’s inhabitants is a murderer. It mixes a story-driven adventure, investigation time management, and real-time puzzle mechanics.
Gareis has been working on Mindcop for six years. He hopes to bring fresh ideas to the detective game genre. “Mindcop is my first commercial game project, a detective game in which players really become the detectives and make all the choices,” says Gareis in a press release. “My aim was to create a small world with fleshed-out characters, a captivating mystery and a lively, unpredictable gameplay experience.”
In Mindcop, the quiet hamlet of Merylin Crater Camp is shaken to its core by a murder. The Mindcop (you) and his partner-in-crime Linda must solve the crime by revealing secrets and unravelling lies. There are two endings to discover. Simply put, it’s entirely up to you to find out whodunnit!
As the Mindcop, you will try to sneak into the minds of your suspects. This action plays out as a real-time puzzle. If you complete it, you’ll be able to explore the suspect’s Sea of Thoughts to get clues and conversation hints. You have five days to solve the murder, with every action costing time. It’s up to you to decide what is worth your time and what could lead to dead ends.
Dear Villagers has published some great indie developers’ games, including Terra Memoria, Fabledom, and Revita. The publisher is also working on Caravan SandWitch, launching next week.
Developed by Andre Gareis and published by Dear Villagers, Mindcop will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in Q4 2024.
