To the Moon is one of those games that will remain with you for quite some time. So long that it’s getting a new episode 13+ years after it first launched. A remake for iOS/Android was released in 2007, and after being completely rebuilt with Unity, the game launched for Nintendo Switch in 2020. Until now, PlayStation and Xbox users were left out of the mix. That leads me to the first part of today’s news: To the Moon is being ported to PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Those who have already played — and perhaps explored the rest of the series (Finding Paradise, Imposter Factory) — also have something to look forward to with the Beach Episode launching in a few weeks! It is not DLC, it is its own game. The entire title is technically “Just A To The Moon Series Beach Episode” but that’s such a mouthful.
In To the Moon, Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts perform operations on people on their deathbeds, resulting in the patients remembering a perfect life as they take their last breath. They are working to fulfil the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. As they continue to step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny’s past is revealed. They are curious to piece together why Johnny’s dying wish is going to the moon.
The current-gen port of To the Moon is being handled by Serenity Forge. It will also sell a premium collector’s item, the To the Moon Memory Globe. It is a high-quality glass globe containing multicolour star glitter and blue light to simulate the nighttime. Pre-orders open via Serenity Forge next week.
The Beach Episode is sort of a season finale. (The mystery!) The Sigcorp crew head off on an all-expenses-paid vacation to the Golden Lobster Resort but only for a day. Players will see familiar faces from To the Moon, Finding Paradise, and Imposter Factory. The game features minigames, mysteries, and relaxation. But the dead are returning… what’s going on?
Developed and published by Freebird Games, The Beach Episode will be released for PC on September 20.
