Today’s Future Games Show was presented by Sid Meier’s Civilization VII and I since didn’t post about the highly anticipated title yesterday, now seems like an appropriate time to put all the information together! Yesterday brought two new trailers (one is a gameplay reveal and the other is a narrator reveal), information about various editions that will be available, and – most importantly – the game’s launch date! There was also a gameplay showcase live stream. The Future Games Show featured two segments with themed developer interviews, Building the World and Gameplay. That means five videos of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII greatness in just the last two days, so it’s time to get excited!

Your decisions will shape the cultural lineage of your evolving empire in this deep historical strategy game. You’ll rule as one of several legendary historical leaders to steer the story wherever you’d like by choosing a new civilization to represent your empire in each Age.

“We’re incredibly excited to take players on a new type of journey through history in Sid Meier’s Civilization VII,” stated Ed Beach, Creative Director at Firaxis Games, via a press release. “With the introduction of revolutionary new features such as Ages, the ability to select leaders and civilisations independently to mix and match gameplay bonuses, a beautiful new art style and more, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII promises to be true to our goal of being the ultimate historical strategy game.”

“Building an empire to stand the test of time has never felt more historically immersive,” stated Dennis Shirk, Executive Producer at Firaxis Games, in the same press release. “This is easily the biggest and most ambitious Civilization game we’ve ever made, one that we plan to support for many years to come.”

In Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, you’ll play as past Visionary Leaders of Progress. The roster includes traditional heads of state and visionary leaders in philosophy, science, human rights, and more. Each leader has a unique ability that can be improved upon through gameplay. This allows you to reinforce or pivot your strategy from Age to Age. This is the first game in the franchise to let you choose your leader and your civilization separately so that you have the freedom to mix and match gameplay bonuses, creating new strategies.

Each distinct Age has a rich journey with unique playable civilizations, available resources, land to explore, and entire gameplay systems. Gain advantages in the next Age by accomplishing milestones in your current Age. Adaption is key to reshaping your empire with each Age, and your past accomplishments determine each pool of new Age civilizations. By evolving your empire, you can unlock gameplay bonuses and unique units.

Your empire will come to life in a gorgeously detailed world. A vast range of cultural styles are represented through building architecture and unit design. By interacting with other historic leaders, you’re at the centre of every act of diplomacy and every declaration of war.

Here are all the videos from the last two days, followed by edition details and a release date!

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
