If you’re keen on a whale-worshipping dark fantasy action game, you have very specific tastes. Seriously though, Selfloss has an intriguing narrative. It showcases the beauty of Iceland and Slavic mythology with a unique tale of wise healer Kazimir diving into the mythical world of whale-worshipping to help heal his wounded soul. Selfloss is described as a story of grief, loss, healing, and rediscovering hope in a world once seemingly devoid of light. A few weeks ago, it was announced that the game would be launching on September 12; today, the release date of the PC version has been moved up by a week. The console launch date hasn’t changed.
This emotional adventure game set in a sea-worshipping world with whale gods follows an old healer, Kazimir, as he journeys by boat and on foot. He is searching for a ritual that can cure his wounded soul, caused by losing a loved one. He is a healer in need of a healer. As Kazimir, you will meet memorable characters and use your magic staff’s light to fight the mysterious affliction taking over the world known as Miasma.
The staff is integral in the gameplay mechanics and the story, creating unique opportunities as you can control it simultaneously with and independently of Kazimir. Its searing light helps fight against the enemies that Miasma spawned. You can also use it to solve puzzles and power the boat through rough waters.
Here is the original release date announcement trailer from a few weeks ago:
Whether exploring on foot or by boat, meet various inhabitants and bring your healing touch to ease their pain. The healer needing to be healed will heal others as he progresses through his journey. The title of the game, Selfloss, is the name of the ritual used to heal the wound created when someone loses somebody they love.
Developed by Goodwin Games, and published by Maximum Entertainment and Merge Games, Selfloss will be released for PC via Steam on September 5. It will launch digitally for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series on September 12. Physical versions will be available for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch beginning September 13.
