Fairy Tail 2’s original launch window was late this year or early next, and I’m thrilled that the release date falls into this calendar year! (I’m just so used to delays.) The RPG sequel to the first Fairy Tail Game (2020), is again based on the popular manga and anime of the same name. This time, it explores the climax of the original work. A new trailer was unveiled announcing the release date; it shows off some of Fairy Tail 2’s epic action and battles. But wait, there’s more! Details on the digital and physical versions of the game have been announced.
Fairy Tail 2’s story is the climax of the original work, the Alvarez Empire Arc. Natsu and Lucy are the main characters, fighting alongside other members of the Fairy Tail Guild. They will combine their skills to fight Emperor Spriggan (Zeref) of the Alvarez Empire, his team of elite (and beautiful) mages, and the Black Dragon Acnologia. You can learn more about the main players, see their character art, and check out some screenshots here. Fairy Tail 2 also includes a follow-up to the manga’s final battle in an original chapter, The Key to the Unknown.
The release date trailer gives players a first look at the heroic, speedy magic battles the team must use to defeat their greatest nemesis and his elite unit of mages. Compared to the first Fairy Tail game, battles have been revamped by using the full scope of the guild members’ abilities to reflect the exciting action. Take advantage of the synergy between characters, creating devastating attacks.
Fairy Tail 2 will launch digitally and physically (but only digitally for PC). Digitally, there is a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The latter includes the base game, the Ryza 1 outfit for Lucy, the Ryza 2 outfit for Ezra, the Ryza 3 outfit for Mirajane outfit, the Atelier Lucy bonus feature, a set of 10 alternate outfits, 10 Crystals, and 10 Lacrima Fragments. There is a Digital Deluxe Upgrade Pack available as DLC for anyone interested in upgrading the base game.
Physically, the game will launch as a standard edition and as the Fairy Tail 2 Guild Box in North America and Europe, containing the base game, a B2 cloth poster, a visual artbook inspired by the Sorcerer Magazine seen in the original work, a special shikishi with holographic finish, and the soundtrack on CD. Europe will also receive the Fairy Tail 2 Combo Set, which includes everything in the guild box and special illustrated canvas art with a printed autograph from series creator Hiro Mashima. Until December 27, all digital and physical purchases will include the Miss Fairy Tail Content costume for Lucy. Digital pre-orders also receive the Natsu of Edolas outfit for Natsu.
Developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo, Fairy Tail 2 will be released for PC via Steam on December 11. It will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on December 12. It will launch in North America and Europe on December 13.
