The key art for Fabledom.

There is something quite charming about storybook city-building Fabledom. Descriptions calling it “cozy” and “enchanting” are apt. The laid-back game has you ruling a world where fairy tales come to life, complete with giants, witches, flying pigs, and hidden secrets. Following a reasonable amount of time in Early Access, Fabledom was fully launched for PC last May. Console versions were on the horizon. Today, publisher Dear Villagers announced that the Grenaa Games-developed game would launch for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox in two weeks.

Fabledom is chill enough to allow you to advance your settlement. Trade and use diplomacy to ally with your neighbours, or choose to challenge them instead. It’s no fun to rule all by yourself, so it is important to find a prince or princess. You do want to live happily after ever, right?

Create your kingdom from scratch, constructing castles, barracks, farms, fields, houses, and more. The buildings can be customized with decorations and utilities, making them pretty and useful! Defend against evil neighbours by forming an army and choosing a Champion, or send your Hero to fight on your behalf past the kingdom boundaries. The hero can collect “epic” items and gear.

When it comes to finding your spouse in Fabledom, there are options. Of course, you can find a prince or princess, fall in love, and get married. But feudal times can be rough and as a diplomatic ruler you may need to marry for money or political reasons instead. The game has extensive negotiation mechanics that allow you to partner with others out of mutual interest or even in a battle for total domination.

Developed by Grenaa Games and published by Dear Villagers, Fabledom will be released digitally for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series on September 12. It will also launch physically for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The game is available now for PC via Steam.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
