We’re going to take a little journey now, so please bear with me. Ys III: Wanderers From Ys is the third in the series of action RPGs; it first launched in 1989, with console ports following in 1991. In 2005, a remake was released – this is where we begin with the title Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana. It didn’t come West until 2012. This remake was recently remastered, launching for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation in Japan during April 2023 and May 2024, respectively. And now we return to the reason for this historical detour! Marvelous Europe and XSEED Games will be publishing the remastered remake of Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana in the West (again for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation) during early 2025.
Thrill-seeker Adol and his blue-haired companion Dogi set off to return to Dogi’s Homeland: Felghana after eight years away. Time has not been kind to the land that is now filled with roaming monsters, an active volcano, and a new (and rather greedy) overlord that just makes the situation that much worse. Dogi requests help from a former master while Adol remains to help the locals. Apparently the phrase “no good deed goes unpunished” rings true here, as he finds himself in a world of conspiracies and ancient legacies.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana sticks with the old-school action RPG combat the series is known for, but it also adds difficulty options and “enhancements” like Turbo Mode. Visuals are remastered in high-definition. There are new Refined character illustrations in the game, but if you prefer the original look there are Classic versions as well.
The soundtrack features three iterations of the score: Original, PC-8801, and X68000. All have been remastered, and you can choose which to listen to while playing. Voice acting has been recently recorded for Adol, including an opening narration.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is developed by Nihon Falcom. Marvelous Europe is publishing it in Europe and Australia, while the game will be published under the XSEED Games banner in North America. It will be released digitally for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in Europe, Australia, and North America during early 2025. XSEED Games is also planning a physical Refined Edition for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, containing the base game, a soundtrack CD with 14 songs, an acrylic diorama/keychain set, a set of four postcards with art from the game, and a graphic cleaner cloth. Marvelous Europe hasn’t said anything about a physical edition. (Yet?)
