That’s what I get for taking my time with The Last Waltz. Another indie developer is going to waltz in (hah) and have the first dance-themed visual novel. I’m not jealous though, because Light de Deux looks lovely and I hope it’s a big success.
It’s also about an entirely different form of dancing. Mine’s ballroom, while Light de Deux has a ballet theme. It’s going to be a romance-themed VN, and the description is so very true: Ballet is a lot like love: in both, the partners’ connection is all about trust. But will this bond be strong enough to keep two burning hearts together?
It does look like the game is being developed by someone who genuinely understands balle, too, because it promises a “glossary of ballet terminology” so that people who aren’t so familiar with the art form will be able to play along.
Interestingly, while the developer doesn’t list where they’re from, the game also promises “Ukranian voice acting,” and while Ukraine is very well known for producing excellent ballet dancers (ballroom dancers, too), it’s hard to imagine that the dev would have gone to the effort to get voice actors in the language unless they were a local.
Otherwise, there are not that many more details about the game right now. It does look lovely, though I guess we need to find out if it’s been AI-assisted in any way, as is sometimes the case with indie games… though the addition of voice acting suggests that this one is a cut above what usually gets the AI treatment. These screenshots look authentic and consistent enough, too though I’m very much partial to leotards so might be a little distracted by how pretty Susanna is. (EDIT: the developer has confirmed directly that AI was not used in making this game).
I need to figure out how to get this developer on board for a Dee Dee/Susanna crossover game now.
But I digress. Putting the art aside, the theme is very appealing and we just don’t get enough games themed about dancing. This is one to keep on the radar for the Q4, 2024 release.
