Games inspired by the Game Boy Advance era are currently on trend, and I’m not mad about it. For example, an unfinished Shantae game for the handheld console is now being completed for launch (on both GBA and modern consoles). Action RPG Tako no Himitsu: Ocean of Secrets is a brand new game from the developer of its spiritual predecessor, Save me Mr Tako. The Kickstarter campaign for Tako no Himitsu: Ocean of Secrets started today and will run for 30 more days. There is also a brand-new trailer, its longest to date.
Tako no Himitsu: Ocean of Secrets is set in a world where Octopuses were erased from history. There are six playable characters, each having unique abilities and Symbiosis powers. They also each have a personal backstory and traumas to overcome. Still, they try to make a positive change in the world. They will befriend and train magical Octopuses, the heroes of yesteryear. They can be taught spells to use in battle or help with puzzles while exploring the world.
The world is vast, troubled, and full of secrets just like Gretchen Wieners’ hair. The heroes will discover the truth of the Shadow War and meet some awesome characters in their adventure to restore light to the world.
Combat against shadow monsters is strategic and in real-time. You can swap between characters to adapt to different enemies and get ahead of them with new equipment.
There are nine reward tiers for Tako no Himitsu: Ocean of Secrets on Kickstarter. Sorry, there were nine – the Boss Designer bundle priced at €500 has already sold out! The eight reward tiers still available range in price from €18 for 3 items to a whopping €5,000 for 19 items. The lowest tier includes an exclusive Discord Role for backers, your name in the credits, and a digital copy of the game for PC. Things like digital soundtracks/wallpapers, beta access, physical copies of the game for Nintendo Switch, physical artbooks, and more are added as prices increase. Aside from the sold-out Boss Designer bundle, there are two more “designer” tiers for NPCs and sidequests, Optional add-ons include an “upgrade” to a Nintendo Switch copy (all tiers are for PC), single items from the physical bundles, and an extra digital copy of the game (again, for PC), and more. It’s all-or-nothing funding, so nobody will pay or receive rewards unless the game is backed for over CAD$70,000 total in the next month. I do believe it is possible.
Developed and published by Deneos, Tako no Himitsu: Ocean of Secrets will be released for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch during 2026.
