I can’t say I’ve played a game set in the Austrian Alps before, but now I know of two that are coming up in the next year! I’ve had my eye on one for awhile now: RPG/social sim Dungeons of Hinterberg is set to launch in a few weeks. Another was announced today, Kindred Vale. It is a cozy life sim set in a mystical version of the Austrian Alps, filled with regional folklore not commonly seen in other video games. Kindred Vale is set to launch in Early Access for PC during 2025. A Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to start in September.
Kindred Vale is set high in the Austrian Alps; it is a mystical world where spirits and creatures from folklore live – and only you can see them. Your serene journey will entail befriending the spirits of the wilds to help both humans and spirits thrive. You can even use their magic: fly with the Harpien, dive with the Nixen, and run through grasslands with Zlatorog. The game blends foraging, farming, and crafting with heartfelt relationships and local stories.
For years in the past, the spirits and humans of Kindred Vale lived together harmoniously – but a tragic rift has come between them, causing the town to slip into a magical fog that the creatures use to protect their home. The divide, both physical and emotional it seems, has led the humans to lose touch with the spirits. And the fog holds secrets than many locals don’t know and others won’t speak of. Mend old wounds and build trust back up between the communities, unifying the town to uncover the truth.
The cozy community is filled with fun things to do. Forage, fish, cook, craft, decorate, gift neighbours, discover artifacts for the museum, and more. Interact with spirits to befriend them, rebuild their trust in humans, and unlock special abilities that only you can have. The spirits are inspired by the folklore found in the Austrian Alps; you’ll find that Wolpertinger, Perchten, the Tatzelwurm, and more are just part of normal life in the game.
Similar to the spirits of Kindred Vale, the townsfolk each have unique personalities. Each has their own story and perspective, with more being added through the Early Access phase. You decide who to be friends with. Someone might even give you butterflies!
Developed by stillalive studios, Kindred Vale will be released in Early Access for PC via Steam during 2025.
