Ah, I do love the smell of a Nintendo Direct first thing in the morning! It even gets me out of bed, which is a remarkable feat these days. Today’s Direct is about 40 minutes long and features games coming out in the second half of 2024 or soon thereafter. No, there’s no mention of the unannounced Nintendo Switch successor – but there are so many good games with so many familiar names that it barely matters. (Barely. It still matters, Nintendo. We’re going nuts waiting on news!) You want Zelda? Donkey Kong? What about Mario? Luigi? How about both at once?! This Nintendo Direct has you covered. All of the games here are (obviously) coming to Nintendo Switch; I tried to make note if they are coming to any other platforms.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Some people love Mario for platformers, but I love him (and Luigi, of course) for RPGs! Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood is an island-hopping adventures starring everyone’s favourite Italian brothers. Shipshape Island is part ship, part island, and Mario and Luigi will be setting sail on it to navigate a vast world called Concordia. The islands you visit are as varied as they come, from tropical rainforests to bustling cities. Make new friends and meet old ones along the way. Rely on the bond of brotherhood by using Bros. Moves and Bros. Attacks.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership will be released for Nintendo Switch on November 7.

Fantasian Neo Dimension

It’s been a few years since Fantasian first launched for Apple Arcade. The original RPG set in over 150 hand-crafted dioramas is absolutely stunning. Fantasian is from the father of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and renowned composer Nobuo Uematsu; it should seem familiar yet brand new at the same time. This enhanced version of Fantasian includes Japanese and English voiceovers, and a new difficulty option. Play as Leo as he recovers he memories and solves the mystery of a strange mechanical infection destroying the world. Battles are turn-based with an emphasis on mechanics and strategy.

Fantasian Neo Dimension will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series in Q4 2024 or Q1 2025.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

I’m firmly on the Marvel side of conflict here – how about you? The old (vintage? antique?) Marvel vs. Capcom arcade games remain iconic to this day, and Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics contains seven titles to get your nostalgia juices flowing. The games include X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and The Punisher. Return to familiar characters with familiar moves, but now with online functionality, training modes, custom matches, spectator features, a museum, a music player, display filters, and one-button special moves.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch this year.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

Party time! Mario and friends are visiting a big island resort in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the latest title in the board/mini-game series. There are five new game boards, including Rainbow Galleria, Roll ’em Raceway, and Goomba Lagoon. Two previous Mario Party boards will return. There will be over 110 mini-games to play, the most in the series. Online, up to 20 players can go at it in the Koopathlon mode.

Super Mario Party Jamboree will be released for Nintendo Switch on October 17.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection

I love it when Nintendo DS (or 3DS) games make it to Nintendo Switch, just because it means work has gone into making each one work on a single screen and that’s helpful for preservation moving forward. Ace Attorney Investigations Collection includes Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit, the latter of which is launching outside of Japan for the first time. Both titles are remastered and localized. Scour crime scenes, interrogate suspicious suspects, and untangle webs of deceit.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection will be released for for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on September 6.
